I like both designs equally, and there's little difference in the quality of the art - but this one is much more mutant. I hope the old one will eventually be turned into darigan, since the current darigan gelert isn't all that great. xD;

For a first try, this is actually very good. I'm not confident enough to try redlining it, but I suggest that you look at pictures of real animals as references. You can find photos on google image search. Other than that, just keep practicing and you'll be great in no time.
