MapleStory

Post by Captain_Awesome »

There have been at least two other d=topics, both dead and outdated. With the EXP curved reduced, 2xEXP fridays, free godly equips, Cygnus Knights coming up and inflating prices to keep your wallets full, now seems like a great time to start playing.

Of course, that's all for GMS (Global Maple Story, covers virtually the entire Western Hemisphere). Another popular version is KMS, since MapleStory is a Korean game KMS gets it's updates far sooner than any of the other servers. EMS (European MapleStory) is garbage, don't bother with it.

Sites for you to browse if you've been out of the loop:

And BannedStory if you just wanna mess around with some of the sprites and such:

I play on the Yellonde server. My characters are Vhanadu, a level 72 Sniper, and iAmULtraCooL a level 66 I/L Wizard. Accentuating the L's is necessary, because uppercase i's and lowercase L's look exactly the same in game. Soo, yeah.

Generally you should talk about GMS, other verson would probably complicate things and confuse people.

Aww our poor dead old maple thread lol.

I play a level 128 drk on Broa, Pennyiane. I have a level 148 bishop named PennyLane9 too but I got a little bored with her. Also a ton of other chars because Joey rubbed off on me. I'm on a tiny maple break right now...I haven't logged on in a week or so heh. I got a little worn out after playing so much to get to 120 so yeah, tiny break. I'll be back on when Knights of Cygnus come out probably...

Oh I have a 5x pirate in yellonde named Glozzica but I don't play it =-/ I needed to get away from drama in broa so I went there for a few months....but eventually went back. I missed my guild and DK too much =) All of us from NC played on broa before...but they all ditched me D=

What free godly equips? o.o Those new timeless equips coming out? I thought we needed a bunch of dragon scales and other things to make those.

And because we lost tons of screenies from our original maple thread...here are some NC members trying to GPQ! We failed miserably on stage 2 and ran around until time ran out. And this was after waiting hours to get it because it was the day GPQ came out =D http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d95/L ... le0366.jpg

I was referring to the Agent equips, the permanent hat, earrings and overalls don't take much effort to get, and doing the Today's Mission quests give you secret boxes, which can have scrolls that act exactly the same as Chaos scrolls but only on the Agent equips. Free permanent equips that can be chaosed are a godsend for us unfunded luckless mages.

There's an Nc guild an what? o_o

Oooh those. It seems like too much work to get all those permanent equips =D

Yeah we used to have a guild with mainly NC people in it but that was years ago. Everyone else seems to have quit maple.

Yeah, I've pretty much quit. I dunno, it just lost the magic for me at some point. Maybe I'll give level 70 another shot once my class is over for the summer.

Weirdly enough, I've actually been reworking my old costume that I made for that contest ages ago. The top doesn't fit anymore so I'm just going to remake it from scratch. I'll be sure to post picture once I've finished because I've finally gotten my sister to promise to do a shoot.

I've still got a ton of old itcg codes to use, but last I heard there was a glitch with them so I'll sit of them awhile longer. I'm still bummed I never got a Michi card :P

I used to play, had a level 40 something Spearman on Broa. The game's not even installed on my new PC XD;; I just got bored after a while when I hit those boring levels, especially since the best way to level was party quests, and I hated partying up with strangers.

Edit: I remembered another reason why I stopped -- I've gotten too used to 3D MMOs XD

I haven't played since just after the pirates were released. I've actually been thinking about logging back in recently, but I'm afraid its been so long I will be totally lost. :P

Ohh, I remember that group quest thing- there's my archer Cantarei.

I got fed up with level grinding, basically*, particularly with the number of cheaters around. And even if I wanted to start playing again now, it would be pretty difficult seeing as I'm using Linux at the moment.

*yes, I know that's pretty much the essence of MMORPGs. I guess they're just not for me.

What'd they change? I haven't played in a very long time. But did they change something dramatically?

Yep, it's a lot easier to level up now. You need less exp for each level, and they made quests give better exp now. Most monsters are different levels now, there is no upper level limit for party quests now... also it's easier to get nice equips because when you find them they have a chance to have potential. You can use a magnifying glass you get in potion shops on the equip and can get 1-3 lines of extra stats. Could be something like +10 strenght, 3% int, or +5 to all stats. The drop rate for equips is much higher now so it's very easy to get equips with potential. There are no 2x exp cards in the cash shop anymore, because it's that much easier to level up. A new class was added recently, too. I made a Wild Hunter and it's a lot of fun. I get to ride around on a purple jaguar shooting arrows at monsters =) I made the character maybe 4 days ago and I'm level 87 now. It's just that easy to train now. =)

Anyone who decides to come back and check out the new stuff, I'm playing on iPenny9 now, my wild hunter. (On Broa!)

That sounds a ton better, wow. I'm not sure if I'll be able to go back, but I'll put it on a list of games to check out. New classes, hmmmm. I love new classes. But I hate looking up which stats to pick, haha.

They've added several new classes in the past two years, actually. There are Cygnus Knights, Evans, Arans, and the new Resistance characters. The Evan I made was fun to play on. Kind of a little farmer magician, but then I found out you have to buy some of their skills in the cash shop and quit playing it. I think Arans are like that too, maybe. They're some kind of pole arm using warriors. Cygnus Knights were pretty fun but it's been so long since I played mine I couldn't really describe it. I only remember I made the assassin character and I got flash jump in 2nd job =) Pirates may have been added after you stopped playing, too.

You don't even have to know what stats to choose now, if you meant ability points. Years ago Nexon added a button on your AP window that auto assigns your AP for you =P Not very helpful if you want to be a lukless mage or dexless thief, but it's nice for people like me who like making new characters all the time and can never remember what AP is needed.

OH they also updated a ton of skills in the Big Bang update. So much that they gave everyone a free SP reset scroll, that reset ALL of your skill points so we could re-assign them. This was a few weeks ago so I'm not sure if they're still giving those out. But if they are, it'll be in your inventory when you log on.

The Big Bang is a pretty drastic change, but not enough to keep me interested now.

Coolstorybro ahead:
After being absent for most of the year, I tried to get back into Maple in late November and landed in the middle of some dumb hacking drama. I rushed to get the Halloween event items and completed a bunch of quests, only to get rolled back to pretty much the day I started playing again. The event items were no longer available so I lost those forever, but I redid most of the quests. And then they rolled back AGAIN to fix another retarded exploit. They gave everyone who endured both rollbacks 10,000 NX. Then I found out that they've had permanent items in the cash shop for a while now. Thought it would be great to get some permanent transparent things with my free NX. And then they release a new patch... which made it totally impossible for me to stay logged on for more than a minute, if I could even get past the character select screen. Crappy Black Friday sale goes by without Nexon really acknowledging that almost all Windows 7 users are unable to access the game. Then I find out the permanent item option will be gone after Dec. 1st. No dice. When Big Bang came along I was able to get back in, and it's cool. But honestly? I'm ready for another long break.
/end

As if I can't get enough of Nexon and their crazy antics, I've been playing Vindictus instead. Really enjoy it, but slowing down since I'm almost at the level cap.

Ouch, I wasn't around for those rollbacks. I don't know about trouble logging on with Windows 7. My daughter was playing the entire year I was on break and never had problems logging on. I had problems dcing at Horntail because of Win7 but I'm pretty sure that's fixed now.

I was told by my guild that when new items are added to the cash shop there is an option to get the permanent version for a time period, not sure how long.
