Three new galactics!

Post by Sayle »

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful; NK, Arbor and Jill outdid themselves. It's a small batch (not too many galactics left), but a good one, in my opinion. I adore the folds on the ghostly; this and the spectrum are the only two ghostlies I'd consider owning. And the legeica is love! I think I might turn one of my pets into this one, once I figure out whose personality it would suit. The tigrean isn't my favourite, but I do like the pose. :)

I really like the tigrean; the fluidity of the pose and the expression on its face are great. I'm not too sure about the legeica, though; I find it hard to focus on it as a whole. The focal point seems undefined. But that's kind of abstract. It's a pity, though, because I really love the legeica as a species.

Nice batch, yes. Fortunatly there isn't a "must have" for me under them. I like the Ghostly the most, particulary the folds of the shroud. The Legeica is quite nice, too, especially the hair on the hooves. The Tigrean looks a little too fluid to me, more like he's out of rubber than a real animal. *g*

I love the Legeica, but I agree that it's a little hard to focus on it. I get a lot of abstract impressions and a vague sense of the creature, which makes me not really like it...but when I look more closely, I *adore* the sweep of the mane and the shape of the face. So I'm not sure. I guess it's a good thing that I don't have any space to play around with the Legeicas, because I'd have a hard time figuring out whether I wanted this or marsh.

I don't particularly like the tigrean: its body seemed too oddly streamlined--fused together at the back (like a mermaid's tail), with huge paws at the front.

I have no opinion on the ghostly, because I rarely remember their existence anyway. The folds on the robe are nice though. And the gold isn't overdone.

I think NK did an amazing job on a species that doesn't give you much to work with. I really love the gold on the skull, and the folds in the ..

...whatever the body is. Cape. Dress. Tissue paper.

I lovelovelove the pose on the Tigrean, and the golden markings. The neck throws me off a bit, though, because I don't... see it. The front paws look like they're hitting the ground; i choose to believe there's an invisible surface there. XD From the torso back, though, that's the prettiest picture, ever. The spine is nice and fluid, and the legs and tail show a great sense of motion. And the face is sososweet. Those eyes and the muzzle fill me with "...d'awwww. ;;" feelings. Very well drawn mouth and overall. :3

I want to love the tigrean, with its nice markings and cute stripey tail, but I agree with bonecrivain -- there's no real definition to its whole back end; it does look like a mermaid's tail. The front paws are also a bit too large. I find quite a few pets on the site have this issue -- they seem to have very large heads/front paws and then small, crammed-in-the-box back ends.

Do any of you guys know about perspective?
The Tigrean ( well as i see it) is pouncing towards up, makings ins body a bit behind it. If you think of it with perspective there isn't anything wrong with it because things get smaller, the further they are in the distance.
Thats why the head may seem bg and the front paws larger then the behind, hind legs and tail.
Unless this wasn't intended but I am guessing it probably was.

Anyways, NK, Arbor and and Jill have done an AMAZING job on these <3 I love them~!

Please don't talk to us like we're ignorant children. You're damn right we know what perspective is. Jeebus. We've been critiquing, commenting, and creating art for years. The perspective just so happens to be off. Onoes! The paws are too large and the right foreleg is much too rounded. The same goes for the rear where the hip joint is poorly defined, if it is at all. That said, I like the bright gold and I don't find it entirely abhorrent.

Moving on. I like the ghostly, although it's right claw is a bit weird. I think it blends a bit too much into the body. I think my problem with the legaica is that the scales stand out much more than they normally do for some reason, and it's somewhat distracting. It's alright, and I prefer this muzzle to than the standard one.

I don't see any reason to change Moonkin this month. I love the look of the lasirus, but the darker dirty gold still bothers me. I want it to be bright and shiny like most other galactic pets.

I don't see how I was talking to you guys like you were ignorant children? Nobody even mentioned that the perspective was off, so i thought i would mention perspective. Yes there maybe some things off about it but i wasn't in the mood for giving these critique as I know they have been critiqued quite a bit already.

To be honest, I too think the perspective in the Tigrean is off... I just don't like it much, and I think that may be the reason.

I also agree with what Ty said about the Legeica. My eyes don't know where to look at. Apart from that, it's a very well done pet.

I'm in love with the Ghostly, though. <3 I've always liked Ghostlies, besides their slightly outdated look... I need more pet slots ASAP.

quite disappointed with the tigrean.. it looks more like a plushie-esque blob. the body really has no definition.

the others look good, but nothing that screams to me to try getting one..

The Ghostly looks good for what it is, but I don't think it really looks... good. Heh. The facial expression is very.. odd, and because it's so dark, I have trouble seeing where folds of fabric end and its arms begin, even though there's obvious space in between.

The legecia is another one that I just think is too dark - like the galactic serpenth (cept.. the serpenth is one of my least favorites, I think it's ugly as all get out, and this one is a lot nicer). It's just hard to see the different body shapes on it, to really make out the anatomy.

The Tigrean looks like a spaghetti noodle to me ;_; It looks like it's been tended to by Professor Lockhart, and lost all the bones in his second half. Just very rubbery. Which sucks, because I love the face. The body (and I agree, the perspective) just makes it look like it doesn't really have.. bones in there.

The Ghostlie and Legeica are both very well done imo, the colours for the scales for the Legeica look a but too bright compared to the rest of the body and face, but other than that I think it looks gorgeous. The Ghostlie's body is very welll done, I love that the folds look so well defined, thought the arm and hand to our left looks a little off to me for some reason. It could just be the perspective.

The Tigrean... its a lovelly pose in concept, it's just that the perspective looks to be a little off, the front paws could do with being a touch smaller, especially the one to our left, it just doesn't look right for some reason. The patterning looks beautiful though, there isn't too much of it, which is a plus in my book.

Overall not a bad bunch, the tigrean could be a little better but that can be easily solved imo.

Hem haw. I think... I understand where this pet (the tigrean) is coming from. The haunches are much smaller to reflect the perspective, with the tigrean leaping forward toward us and the legs trailing. The back is curved and there isn't much muscle definition because it's supposed to give the appearance of effortlessly floating through space; it's not just a pouncing cat, it's a pouncing cat with gravity taken away. It's relaxed.

I do agree that the execution could have been better. The problem, for me, is that it's too dramatic for my liking; it's almost a caricature. I love the perspective idea, but the effect reminds me of the distortion I get when I take pictures with my widest angle lens. (Wide angle example, courtesy gilad.) I love the idea of a fluid tigrean, but I think it's a little too fluid for me.

I am in love with the tail and markings, however; the little sun on his forehead is calling to me. Torn, again.

This sounds sarcastic and condescending. Maybe you didn't intend it that way -- for all I know it may have been a straight question -- but if so you should be careful, because sarcastic and condescending is how this sort of question will be interpreted.
Keshi wrote:Who is we by the way? Not everyone who is giving these crits has been creating art and critiquing it for years.
This is the forum of a website specifically for discussion and critique of pet site art. We have the disproportionate number one would expect of artists and other people with trained eyes. You addressed us as a whole and Huggles responded for us as a whole. Also, most of the people who posted above you are long-term regulars who have, by inference, been critiquing art for at least as long as they have frequented Neocolours.

Anyway, the art. I lurve the Ghostly. I have no desire to own any Ghostly, but they do get awesome redraws. I even like that weird face it's making, which strikes me as the sort of face a Ghostly would make under the circumstances.

I'm having the same problem with the Legeica and Tigrean, and it is the problem a lot of other people are having: elements of them are gorgeous; taken as a whole, neither of them quite works as a piece of art. My eye has no idea where to go on the Legeica, and anatomically the Tigrean bugs me. The Legeica does address one of the issues I have with the standard Legeica (which I love): its scales have dimension. The standard one's appear to lay perfectly flat against its profile.

A very pretty batch, though. I hope the rest of this month's Galactic pets are as good.
