Inbox acting funny

For some reason my PM alerts keep telling me I have 2 new messages, but I don't. I've read all my messages and it still keeps giving me the same alert. It started telling me that yesterday and it won't go away... I noticed it when my inbox told me there was one message waiting for me, but my inbox was too full. One new message came through when I deleted some messages, and when I get a new message, next to my '2 new messages it says 1 unread message'.

This is a bug in phpBB3 and I'm not sure how to fix it, because I can't see what controls flagging of read and unread messages.
