New People Sub-forum or Sticky?

Post by Garrett »

I was thinking that we should put in an Introduction Sub-forum or maybe a sticky in Chit-Chat, so that we don't keep getting multiple "Hi, I'm new" threads started in Chit-Chat.

Nah, I don't mind them there. It's Chit-Chat, anyway; it's random by nature. I'd feel silly having a forum where there might not be new posts for ages just because people weren't signing up... or where, even worse, people might feel obligated or required to post just because they were new... hm, that sort of thing usually scares me away from a forum.

Mmm, I'm with Ty. It's not like we have huge numbers.

I've never had a problem with multiple "I'm new" threads. It's not like everybody creates one, for one thing (and as Ty said if we did that, people would feel obligated). We don't get all that many really, but since they tend to come in spurts it probably feels like more.

It's not a bad idea, but I don't think it's really necessary either. We aren't a really huge forum and we don't have a ton of those threads clogging things up, really. Also, I hate to admit it but if there was a stick or subforum I'd probably never read it. When people introduce themselves in chit chat though it catches my eye and I take a look. I think things are ok as they are at the moment.
