New neopets layout

I'm not planning on taking drastic action for at least a week, either, but if they're planning on making it so that we can de-custom our pets, why not make it like that from the very beginning? I'm suspicious that they're just hoping to make us feel a little better and that if we stick around for a week, we'll be over the initial shock and won't leave even though nothing has changed.

I was going to spend some time this evening working on my Neohome. I'll have to think whether there's still a point.

When I saw the "convert this neopet" link I thought "well....ok. At least we have the choice". But I didn't choose to convert Verwesen. The old Halloween Uni wasn't perfect but that is the picture I paid to have. I haven't read through the entire thread, does anyone have a royal/maraquan/darigan pet who has been changed?

Edit: Ugh I see tons of you have pets who have been changed =( This really sucks.

My royalgirl flotsam has. It bothers me. Among others. My royalgirl lupe is fine, though. For a given value of 'tiny'.

The new layout is awful and my poor poor pets!
I literally screamed when I saw what they have done to my hissi and koi. At least my Grey Jubjub is unchanged.

More bad news on my side account. My uni and cybunny look horrible but worse of all is my baby scorchio. I could of cried when I saw her

I am seriously considering quitting Neopets. Whats the point of playing a virtual pets site where you can't stand looking at your own pets?

Won't do anything drastic, but suspect this will manage to kill of the miniscule amount of interest in Neopets I have left (the bulk of it was transferred a long time ago to Subeta). For the last six months or so I've logged in 2-3 times a week at most, and usually only to buy/sell stocks (though I managed to paint Maregan Royal the other week - without feeling more than 'okay, pretty'), and now.. This feels like a whole new Neopets, and while that isn't necessarily a bad thing (except the uglyfying of most pets), I just... don't care anymore. It's sad.

I know some very expensive pets have been changed over without a by-your-leave, but the ones of mine that really upset me are the (relatively) cheap pets that have lost so much in the revamps and don't have a grandfather option.

This lot are only snow, skunk, ghost and mutant, but I loved the art they had, and I seriously doubt it will come back. None of them have gained from this update. There's a difference between "make it fit a square" and "the arm must be here, the ears must be here" drawing - all the sinuousness and flesh have been replaced by stiffness. Sure, I'll have a cooling-off period, but total account rearrangement is going to be required.

[edit] I note they're still updating stuff - in the last 1/2 hour the favicon has changed. At least I don't hate that.

I don't mind the new layout. In fact, I'm kind of intrigued by the new layout and inspired to start puttering around on the site again.

But there's no excuse for them arbitrarily replacing pet art with horrible, horrible, horrible art. I wouldn't be freaking out quite so much if the art wasn't objectively BAD.

You know? I don't even really care what their "wait until next week" thing is about. They have no excuse to do something this shitty to their users without consulting us beforehand.

Now I just have to decide which of my accounts I'll be permanently freezing, with the pets I can't bear to give away but can't stand to look at anymore. I won't do anything drastic until next week, because I know I'm too emotionally caught up in this right now. But I have a right to be.

EDIT: And why are all of the customized versions making fists? Is that because they know how much we hate them?

The royal uni was changed; you can see it here. It's just like the other unis, and I don't like it.

I agree with tallan, all I did on Neo was zap, dailies and stocks. Before today I narrowed it down to fishing, zapping and stocks. Now..I don't know. They ruined my pets. I hate them.

I have other pets who have been changed, but slightly. My maraquan shoyrus Dekyras just has a curved flipper now to hold an item. My royalboy shoyru's happy image is now the old circle image without a circle. I like the old happy image much more, but at least the art itself on his hasn't changed.

Yeah, I don't like the layout. I could get used to it, but only because I have a fast connection, a large resolution, and a new, sparkly sense of apathy for the website in general. Very annoying to find pet lookups destroyed, but eh... those can hopefully be updated. I'm just thankful I didn't put any work into a userlookup. A little less work to redo everything.

The changes to the pets is beyond words, though. I only have two finished pets that were forced into an update that I can't stand, but I was saving for a couple of others that are now horrible looking. So much Do Not Want going on. I hate that they've apparently done away with the other poses... Really, really hate it. It feels like they just got rid of a lot of the site's personality and creativity. For dolly pets to play dress up with. Peachy.

Poor redrawn pets. That's just not fair to so many players.

And hah, they did this the day before my birthday. A pinch more salt to the wound.

For those who are curious: Disowning a non-updated pet which has the option to be updated (such as a Maraquan gelert, ie Chickamauga) does not update them. Of course, the new owner might decide to and then my link won't work, but eh.

This is just bad on so many levels. As PharaonicQuiche put it, they've destroyed so much just for a paper doll function that I suspect the majority of users never really wanted.
