Nice idea in principle, but it would be unfair on the less known members and would end badly.

I suspect there are mods out there which could be edited a little to give trophies on pre-defined events...no, dammit! I promised myself I wouldn't install any major mods until I got an error-free phpBB upgrade.

I do really like that idea. Awards are bad (PPT has a "best admin"- I wonder which of our incredibly numerous admins here would win that one?), but trophies anyone could earn sound like fun. Editing the profile would be easy compared to actually setting up the system, though..

If there were trophies for doing things I deliberately wouldn't get any to show you that I'm cool anyway, but I'd secretly covet yours because, you know, you can never be too cool...

Actually you can it happened to a friend of mine and he exploded.

Is it even possible to have an error-free anything upgrade?
Don't even suggest such things. I am already busy. And now thinking about how to implement this. And what cool other things could be done with this. And how it could be done properly.

Curse me and my overworked slightly creative technical ADD brain!
Sorry...? Well, the games could always wait.... The different things would need to be planned anyways....
... I drew us a faerie in case we want one for one of the trophy-earning things. I can't colour him yet though because I can't find my proper pens. I suppose I could upload the sketch though if you guys want, since I don't know when I'll be able to find a correct pen (I don't use ballpoints because they suck, so I use microns).

For scavenger hunts/quest games (I'm thinking that the faerie could be a permanent quest game. Kind of like a Neopets faerie quest, but without the stupid buying crap; an actual quest. I guess more like the scavenger hunts), everyone could draw little 80x80 items up and it'd be nifty.

If anyone knows how to make flash games, maybe they could make a game or two?

EDIT: Found my micron! Yay! *goes to ink*

Personally I'm not a great fan of the idea - while I admit it would be fun, I've seen similar awards at other forums and it can come across as cliquey and a bit of an exercise in ego-massaging to those not fully acquainted with the more regular/popular posters.

No thanks, the funny/nice/artistic people are appreciated without the need for awards.

Hey now...sometimes techs get them too!

Anyhoo....i basically agree with what everyone else has said. I think it would split the forum. Unless it was something completely silly like, Most back slippers, or Greenest Shirts.

*gripes about the little show I did last week and specifically the way how, having bent over backwards to squeeze the director's virtually unworkable demands out of literally zero budget by begging, borrwing and bodging eveything required, the director totally forgot to thank me except for a passing "oh, thanks" as I left (having de-rigged alone). And I'd chipped in £3 for his present too!*

Ick..I hate when the directors forget that we put in just as much work (if not more) as the actors. My favorite saying is "without techs, the actors would be naked, standing on a dark, empty stage with no audience...and even if someone was there, they wouldn't hear them very well."

sorry for the o-tness!

Trick wrote:I'm not that convinced it would be that good an idea either. PPT has that I think, and as far as I can see it just becomes a general pat on the back for those that are friends with the most fellow members *shrugs* I'm not sure it would do much for inter-forum relations!
I'm going to agree with Trick here - last time on PPT, somebody won a total of 6 awards, while they may have deserved each of them, there were also people who deserved awards too, however, being not as well-known or popular, they stood no chance in the competition. They're nice in principal, but it usually doesn't work out like that.
