This is probably old, but I ran across this Pokefusion thing today. It patches together pokemon (first 120ish at the moment) sprites and hilarity ensues.
But I've seen some awesome art coming from it, and had to participate myself (since I've been itching to art anyway).

Some neat (if sorta random) ones from DA:

Venochu: http://www.deviantart.com/art/Venochu-374189916 (by Aqua!)

Cubone/Marowak make everything awesome: http://browse.deviantart.com/art/PO-KE- ... -374911472
Anyway, I was hoping this might inspire some people here, since we have a smattering of Pokemon loving artists. I like seeing what y'all come up with.

Re: Pokefusion!
Here's a Marowak/Ninetales recently done by an artist I follow. Aqua has a couple more really cute ones on her tumblr—I should probably leave her to link them if she wants to.
What really gets me is that this whole thing was my jam back in the day. I was a big Pokémon fan when I was younger (first experiences on the internet), and I knew a lot of other Pokémon fans, and we'd do this sort of thing all the time. Not the art, ha ha god no, that would have required actual talent—but we'd take the sprites and splice them to make them look like they'd been one mon all along. People had shops and requests and contests and everything.
I used to be cool you guys
I still pop one open now and then (it's relaxing, if nothing else), but the games aren't as much about pretty pixel art as they used to be. I was disappointed in the pokéfuser at first—automatic generation just isn't as good as the ones people did by hand—but now that it's inspiring all this cool monster art I'm glad.

Re: Pokefusion!
That kind of sprite is *way* better done - very cute! I think the appeal of the generator is just because it is able to be random (or close enough), which means combinations that are really unintuitive pop up. Though yeah, some of the combos really suffer from awkward face shapes and positions. Or like Dodrio, that only one head gets replaced.
This is another I found last night - couldn't find it while thinking of cubone/marowak, but apparently Ponyta gives a nice "skull" too!

I agree, loving the inspiration.

Re: Pokefusion!
The pokefusions are surprisingly fun to make, though I wish the generator did new gen pokemon as well. You could probably do it yourself if you really wanted. :P I think the reason the generator works isn't despite the crappiness of it but because of the crappiness - you have to do some interpretation.
Thanks for linking to mine! I really like venochu (and am tempted to hold on to the design for an original thing). I uploaded the rest of them to my scraps but as foghawk said, they're here as well (and not all of them turned out cute D:).

This has been a fun tag to track on Tumblr. Lots of people are doing some really great things. Starting to see too many repeats now, so I hope the generator adds more soon. I reblogged Aqua's Venochu a few days ago. Definitely one of the cutest I've seen.
A few more good ones (excuse the ugly tumblr links):
