Kanis revamps

Loads of Kanis' have been revamped. All of the basic colours, Bloodred, Chibi, Darkmatter, Graveyard, Hydrus and Spectrum.



I like the revamp of the standard colours, same pose and stuff but better art, can't complain! Not too keen on Bloodred, mainly because I loved the old one, and the new one just doesn't have the same feel to it, artwork is a definite improvement, though. I like Chibi, even though it's very similar to the old one, it's somehow much cuter ^^ Darkmatter is nice, too. I quite like Graveyard, I think it's very nicely shaded, the back leg looks a bit odd but that might just be the perspective. Hydrus is nice, I like its tail and the barnacles etc. I think the markings could have been a bit more vibrant but otherwise it's nice. I'm glad the pose wasn't changed for Spectrum, I always thought it was really cute how it was surfing on the rainbow, so yeah, I like it

OMG YES RACHEL IT WAS A LOT! I figured I'd destroy people's hopes and dreams all in one go, rather than string out the pain over many months xD Yikes i've been working on these for ages though.

It started off as just me wanting to take off the black lines that defined the markings on the wrists/ears, and the white line that went around the chest ruff. Then I would see anatomy problems that I wanted to fix. Then on some I just saw things that I could totally improve on xD I'm sure there are still flaws here and there, and I know people are going to be upset, but these kanises are up to site quality now and won't be touched again for a long long time (if at all. I can't predict what the future holds!)

Sigh. It's killed the bloodred kanis for me, unfortunately, which would be the first pet I saved to paint on the site because I loved it so much.

Oh well. I'll figure out something to repaint her.

I have no recollection whatsoever of what the hydrus Kanis used to look like, but it's awesome now. So, nicely done.

Hmm. They're barely any different, and they still have anatomically impossible back legs when the original had actually got that bit right.

LOL. The Bloodred reminds me of Flippy from Happy Tree Friends. The rest are awesome and so much of an improvement, I love the seaweed and little seahorse on the Hydrus. I think the Spectrum and Darkmatter are THE BEST.

Nooo, they revamped the Graveyard Kanis D: I guess I'll have to find a different colour to make Appendix now.

The basic colours are great, I didn't even think they had been changed at first. The Chibi one lost a bit of it's cuteness, I think, and the Graveyard and Bloodred Kanises are just.. well, I don't like them. I'm neutral about the Darkmatter and Hydrus ones.

I still don't particularly like the basic poses/colorfills (not that I loved them before or anything, I pretty much avoided them). Spectrum looks... unchanged? I don't remember what it looked like before. I still h ate chibi just as much (it has Who hair). Then again, I'm also not fond of the color as a whole, so that's no loss for anyone. Actually, I'll probably need a side-by-side comparison for me to realize and appreciate how much better they've gotten as I do not have a photographic memory (or much of a memory at all). :/

Despite this, graveyard, hydrus, and darkmatter are very much improved and awesome looking. I kinda wish the anglerfish theme was kept for the hydrus (with the other cool added bits), but the new one is nice enough. Graveyard is nice and ragged looking. I like the sparking on its head. But darkmatter really takes the cake. I love it. The fact that I'm planning on getting 6 more pets makes me think I can work him in somehow (I have names picked out for them, I just don't know what species most of them are going to be). Darkmatter is fully awesome, and I want one and blahblahblah.

..the old hydrus was better, pose was at least. It was more evil looking, isnt that the point of the colour? Same for dark matter, whys it happy now? The spectrums new face looks wierd, ..off, I suppose. Bloodred's scowl is gone, and graveyard's smirk is too.

Chibi is cute, I like the fur texture on it...well no. The colouring on ALL of them is really nice.

Wow Rah, you must have been busy recently!! At least now you won't have to people asking you when/if so and so Kanis color is going to get a revamp

I've never been a huge fan of the Kanis so the revamps don't really affect me too much. The Darkmatter revamp I think is my favorite of the bunch. I wish Bloodred still had blood dripping off it's ears and that Hydrus had kept it's old design. The new one's antlers and ears confuse me, as I'd think the ear should either be over the antler or to the outer side. The seahorse is neat though! Graveyard is a good update, and the little electricity coming off the bolt on it's head is great. Chibi is Chibi and don't have much to say on it.
It's great that Spectrum kept the feel and pose of the old one for the fans, but I would have liked to see a complete redraw of it since I never cared for the old one much.

I had a Darkmatter Kanis for a long, long time. I think he was my very first Subeta redraw, actually. When I finally decided to change him a few months ago it was a really hard decision; I still loved the art but I could tell it was outdated and was on the brink of being revamped. Ultimately I decided it would be easier to change him while I still liked him rather than wait for a revamp that I might not like, have him ruined for me and feel forced to change him. Anyway, it took a few months, but the revamp has finally happened and now I know I made the right decision. I don't like the new version at all. I'm glad I changed him when I did because if I had come online today and seen Funerary changed into this I would have been pretty devastated.

The body is an improvement but the face is much less effective. The old one actually looked like an evil bunny. This one just looks smug for some reason. If one of the dark matter things (bottom left) looks more sinister than the pet itself I think there's a problem.

Actually, I think the face thing is a problem common to almost all of them. They all have better bodies now but Graveyard, Bloodred, Darkmatter and Spectrum all lost something in the face. They used to each look unique (which I guess is a problem on a site that strives for artistic coherence) but now they all just look like generic cartoon bunnies. I like I said, they're well drawn, I just think they're a lot safer now. Even Hydrus is less dramatic, although I won't argue that that revamp isn't a job well done. I particularly like the seahorse.

(This is kind of off topic but the new Hydrus Kanis made me think: What are the underwater Glade pets going to look like? I know it was mentioned in the Glade pets thread but it just now struck me how similar they might be to Hyrdus pets if they go the way of covering them with seaweed and barnacles and stuff. I'm assuming they'll have a green base, not brown, but still. Hmm.)

Overall, I like the redraws... the Hydrus especially, but I am INCREDIBLY sad that Rah left out the angler lures. I could deal with the two on the ears being removed, but I loved the one in it's forehead! If it still had the lures, I would probably turn one of my pets into the Hydrus Kanis. :c
