I'm fine with the new one but I just thought I'd remind people that the Tigrean revamp shows that they do still listen to comments people make: so if you have a strong opinion about things that should be changed on the new Otter, be sure to post it on the appropriate Subeta forums thread where the staff will read it.

I don't think the new one keeps to the personality of the old one. I particularly do not like the way the otter isn't compact anymore: all the limbs and the neck and tail seem too long and lanky. The old version is curled up, whereas the new old is just - new art, but not reposed to take advantage of the new art. If they reposed it I think I'd vote yes to the poll.
Bless my whiskers. {Formerly Grey Cloud.}
I like the idea of an otter revamp, and I know the art is better, but the face and eyes just don't seem right to me. Im trying to figure out what it is, as I know constructive critisicm is far better than ' i don't like it'. The eyes have lost their big innocent look, and the front of the face seems too flat, with the nose/snout feeling too long and narrow. I think thats what looks off about it to me. For now im voting old. Id love to see a tweaked version

*snort* Well, I went on the Subeta forums to discuss the Otter, and was told not to talk about it in the Revamp Feedback thread. However, all of the other threads about the Otter (such as several in the Main forums) have been locked.
WTH? If they didn't want us to talk about it, then why show us?
ETA: And I was just told by a mod that the threads weren't supposed to be locked, and she unlocked them. Hmm, mysterious. Don't the Staff talk to each other? Sounds like someone was abusing their powers.

Sunwolf, as I explained in the Revamp Feedback thread, since the Otter has not actually been revamped that particular thread is not the appropiate place to discuss it.
I also unlocked the thread and made sure myself and other other staffers were on the same page with regard to where "potential" revamps get discussed vs. "finalized" revamps.
It's not that we don't want it to be discussed, we just want the discussion to happen in the right place. It has nothing to do with abuse of power. To me it seems like perhaps you just want it to be that?

after the dragon revamp thread was locked on the subeta forums.. i don't think it's entirely unreasonable for people to question it - especially when people are told not to speak of potential revamps in the revamp feedback thread, yet the threads regarding the potential revamp are locked.Jessyta wrote:Sunwolf, as I explained in the Revamp Feedback thread, since the Otter has not actually been revamped that particular thread is not the appropiate place to discuss it.

a misunderstanding, yes - but everyone is reasonably on edge regarding interactions between art staff and users.
not a huge fan of this revamp, but i'm not a huge otter fan anyway. the face looks a bit off.. like the muzzle is a bit too elongated.

I think that the landslide of revamps lately, starting with the Dragon, have made everyone on edge and afraid that the Staff won't listen to them. Although it was a misunderstanding, locking the Otter threads felt like someone was saying "We really don't care about what you think, and are going to do it anyway." I've never seem a Poll revamp that was canceled in favor of the original version, after all.
The Dragon Revamp threads were different. Threads made by users were locked because those users whould have been using the sticky, as it was not a potential revamp but a finalized revamp.

Right, which we've said over and over, we're working on fixing the dragon situtation.Sunwolf wrote:I think that the landslide of revamps lately, starting with the Dragon, have made everyone on edge and afraid that the Staff won't listen to them. We've worked hard (especially on the last revamp, and we plan to do the same thing right now, with this otter) to keep everyone happy with all the revamps that are coming up, or ones that we've done recently.
We're also planning to have the dragon changes done soon, and a poll added for them.
On the subject of the otter, I love it. I agree with all of you on the changes that should be made, and I know that he artist will work on them

I was really rather bothered by the old <strike>Otter</strike> Ontra. (When did that change happen?) It looked too much like a baby, with the tail being the exact same size as the body and the huge anime-esque eyes. I like the new one, though I will admit that the forehead is a bit too big for my liking.
I voted for the old one as well, not because I don't think the art for the new one is scads better, but because I know that it'll be revamped anyway, and I think some of the characteristics of the old one are essential and must be retained.
I like almost everything about the new one except for its face and head. The forehead really bugs me: the shading on it is odd, too shiny, as others have mentioned, and it makes it look really bulbous. It's a cute otter, not Reese Witherspoon! Also, its facial expression is way too generically happy. The old "huh?" look must be carried over!
I also preferred the position of the paws on the old one to the way this one's paws are held. It looked slightly defensive and sweet, while this one looks more outgoing.
I don't mind that it's comparatively less furry; otters are generally pretty sleek anyway. (Note: please please do not go telling me that it's not an otter, it's an ontra! it doesn't need to look like the real thing! I hate it when people respond with that to defend art -- it's a moot argument when a pet is clearly nothing but a cartoon otter.)

That would be much preferable. Alexander is adorable. I loathe the head of the new Ontra -- I <i>like</i> it without a real muzzle.Sunwolf wrote:Maybe if the Ontra was revamped in the style of Alexander?
I think it says a lot about the revamp that right now at least this is the closest revamp poll I can recall, at a ratio of about .6. Revamps polls are usually a landslide in favor of the new version.
