The Tales of Beedle the Bard
I'm not sure how old this news is but it's the first time I come across it:
http://www.amazon.com/beedlebard
In a way it's a charming idea, and yet...a bit annoying.

Re: The Tales of Beedle the Bard
I was sick of Ms. Rowling after her first book. Needless to say, all of the insane publicity for her work bugs me. I'll admit she did a supreme job of creating a whole little world, but I'll also be the first to say that she's NOTHING compared to lots and lots of kids & teen authors.
More of her stuff is only more annoying, I'd love this if it were by someone more talented and perhaps less known. The volume itself looks really pretty, though - skulls and moonstones! Shiny.

I agree with ya Enriana. Sure I liked the books and own them all, but I don't really see why she gets all this OMG SUPER HYPE! whenever she sneezes.
I love that picture though of the guy holding the book with white gloves, like it would cause the end of the world if he touched it with his bare hands.
Crazy items for crazy (and insanely) rich people to collect I guess. If it makes them happy all the more power to you even if I think you're an idiot.
Now if something like this was done for Animorphs that would be awesome.

Well, all the proceeds are going to charity, so I can't really fault anyone who buys one. If they're going to donate that much money, it's nice that they get a pretty, hand-written and hand-illustrated book out of it. I'm not upset that we can't read it; I liked the HP books, but I don't feel the need to read any of this extra stuff.

It's a four-million-dollar book, you can't blame him for wanting to be careful! Plenty of less-expensive books are still handled with gloves because of the damage the things on our fingers do to them over time.I love that picture though of the guy holding the book with white gloves, like it would cause the end of the world if he touched it with his bare hands.
Honestly, I think this is a really good thing. Rowling only expected it to sell for £50,000 and it went for £2m, so that's much more money for charity than anyone was expecting, and then it was bought by a company who is actually willing to share the contents rather than lock it away somewhere.

Yeah, I don't get why the Harry Potter books hit it so big. I like them, but then again I like a lot of books. various DnD book series such as Dragonlance or Knights of the Silver Dragon never got such publicity, and they've been doing the magic thing for years now. Also,
Agree'd! Perhaps an audio-book of Andalite fables?

Or maybe a book that actually ends the series...nanabobo567 wrote:Now if something like this was done for Animorphs that would be awesome.

Better than your favorite character ending up a creepy cyborg with no reasoning, no plot, and no ending, seen only in a few paragraphs at the end of the last book.

I keep forgetting this thread isn't about the HP books anymore when it pops up on the new posts page, and thinking, 'Yeah, well, mine died offscreen and the gun on the mantlepiece from three books ago was never fired,' and then thinking, 'Wait, cyborg?'

I nearly said "<3 Chekhov" there, until I came to my senses. Then I remembered the torture of studying Three Sisters. Just go to bloody Moscow already!Twofold Black wrote:'Yeah, well, mine died offscreen and the gun on the mantlepiece from three books ago was never fired,' and then thinking, 'Wait, cyborg?'
So instead, <3 Teo ;0)
