Silly question.
Okay... So let me start this by saying I haven't been an avid Neopets user for a couple of years now.
I first signed on with neopets about 6 years ago I think, username krbs86. I've had my interest in it come and go in waves lately.
Anyways, I've been pretty into it again, and just trying to figure out all the new things, but something has been driving me crazy and I just have to ask. No matter how dumb it may seem...
What does it mean when you try to look at a picture of a pet, and you see the gear picture... ?
Meaning it's a white background and you see like a faded grey gear?
Thanks for your help, and not rolling your eyes when you read this.

Re: Silly question.
When Neopets switched over to customized images, using flash, the gear became the generic image you see when a pet image hasn't loaded yet or is broken. So, it's nothing special. I mean, I don't think it has any other hidden meaning.

Re: Silly question.
TNT's script that makes the pet image urls glitched a bit ago, breaking many pet images (turning them into gears), but you can fix it by just customizing your pet. If you want more details, I think they addressed it in a recent editorial, as well as mentioned it in the news page a couple of times, since people were kinda freaking out that their pets turned into gears.
If your pet is a gear:
Click the "Customize" link beneath your active pet (which is presumably a gear at the moment), and if you have anything in your closet, add it to your pet, click the "Save" at the top of the window, then you can remove it or continue customizing and the image will fix itself.
If you don't have anything to customize with, try "Moon and Stars Background", which is about 150np, very pretty, and will work on all your pets even if they are unconverted (using old artwork and can't wear clothes). Just add it, save it, remove it, save again, and go to the "Presets" button at the top to quickly access your other pets and fix their images too.
If you are looking at a pet that is a gear, just go to the pet lookup to see the Flash image that should be up to date. Theoretically, TNT is fixing the glitch, but they've stated that it will take a long time for whatever script to run, so it might be a while for things to fix themselves. So accounts that haven't been logged into (and manually fixed the pets) since the glitch are likely to be affected for a while yet.

Re: Silly question.
If you don't have any clothes or can't be bothered with customizing (as it is a very bulky process in my opinion), apparently sticking your pet in the Neolodge, feeding, or playing with them also works.
Haven't tried it, but it was in the NT Editorial, so it should work in theory.

Wanna donate towards my drink gallery, the Golden Goblet.
Re: Silly question.
I suspect that this works by changing the pet's facial expression, although perhaps that works without them already being sad if the script has to run to check if the pet's expression does need to change.

Yeah... Thanks everyone. It's funny how much has changed, but at the same time not much has... -lol-Jazzy wrote:Katy! Everyone's covered your actual question, but hey, I remember you Where've you been?
Hi Jazzy! I remember you too, I was just thinking when I searched out the forum again about how I remember when this placed was turned over to you.
I haven't really been anywhere, for some reason I just kind of got tired of everything, was just too busy. Working two jobs, trying to go to school, and still maintain a social life. Lately I've just decided I miss Neopets and here and so now I'm back. For a while, at least...
How are you?
