Hydrus Hikei revamp!
I never cared much for the old Hydrus Hikei (does anyone have it saved?), but I REALLY like this new revamp. In fact, it's one of the first Hikeis I've ever liked, to the point I'm tempted to get one! It looks so fierce, and the pearls where the orbs should be is a wonderful touch! I think the back leg and foot look a bit odd, but other than that, this is truly gorgeous.

Love it. Especially since I never really liked the old one. This revamp is very nice, though. I can't register how it's standing, but it looks cool nonetheless. And I love the wavy stripes. They remind me of seaweed or (cartoonish) water ripples.
Re: Hydrus Hikei revamp!
TC - I believe it's swimming! Which also explains the missing (hidden!) back leg!
I am very fond of many aspects of this (MLP hip starfish, unicorn horn, pearl orbs, TEETH EEEE), and had to change Mule into it for a little while xD He'll go back to being marsh eventually because...that's just him, but I am enjoying staring at this guy every time I visit the training page!

Ok, that makes sense. A lot of the hydrus pets look like they're standing or sitting, but not many of them look like they're actually swimming, which is why I was a bit confused. XD But hey, now that it makes more sense, it's that much cooler. 8D'

There's the old one.
Wow what a lovely revamp! The pose is wonderful and the pet looks properly pissed off. The shading is lovely, especially on the kelp tails. Can't remember who has the Hikei now, but they did a wonderful job on this revamp.
Wanna donate towards my drink gallery, the Golden Goblet.

I don't like it - the teeth are strange, and the lack of fourth leg bugs me. The art otherwise is nice, but overall this definitely isn't a pet I'll be getting.

ZomgethMew, the teeth aren't really strange - they're meant to look like an actual horse's teeth, I think xD

Re: Hydrus Hikei revamp!
I dislike it It looks like a cross between a horse and a plucked chicken, and why is it missing a leg? Even in this pose part of it should be at least visible. And it's a very drastic change from the old one - the old one was more cute/graceful, and this one looks...fiercer. The 'feel' it has is completely different.
I'm not surprised that so many of the news comments are negative, which is pretty unusual for a revamp.

Re: Hydrus Hikei revamp!
It feels very squished in its box. I know it's a stubby critter, but I feel it could have been elongated a bit to take up a bit more width. That also might give some space to show a bit of the fourth leg, which does look like it's missing entirely, even if it's just because of the pose. I also think the back toes should be webbed. I liked the old one, liked, but those are the few things that keep me from loving the new one.

I liked the old one, but it had to be tweaked to be up to standards. I really, really, really do not like this one. I like the pearls and the seaweed, but everything else is either too weird or too broken for me to like. That upraised forelimb doesn't even look possible, like it's missing a bone or... I don't know.
The hikeis have been doing so well lately. This is very disappointing to me.

Re: Hydrus Hikei revamp!
The 'missing leg' really bothers me in this instance. I think the main problem is that, off the top of my head, I can't think of any other hydrus pets that are posed swimming. To me, the combination of facial expression and pose makes it just look like it is simply pained and missing a leg, which really doesn't seem like such a surprising combination, but I'm guessing not what people want from their Hydrus Hikeis. Compared to the old Hikei, too, the palette is very bright. I know staff have regulations, but it wouldn't surprise me that the original pet was so popular for its unusual mucky brown colour.

It's front legs just don't look right. They look too squished in. The leg on it's right (our left) just seems unnatural. The anatomy doesn't seem to make sense. I may not know much about horses, but I think it's left front leg should have come out more. Does that make sense?
Other than that, it's okay.

Re: Hydrus Hikei revamp!
I've had a hydrus Hikei for a while, and while I liked the old one, this revamp is so much better. Good lord. Plus, to me, underwater equine = kelpie, so the fiercer look is really awesome. Also glad they replaced the clam shells with pearls.
I love the pose, although I can understand the complaints about the missing leg. I didn't notice it at first, so maybe I'm just visually impaired or something. ' In any case, I love it.

Oops, my karma ran over your dogma.

Re: Hydrus Hikei revamp!
I feel the artist didn't take full advantage of space on the canvas, I mean I love the updated feel to it, the colors, the tails and pearls are very lovely, but like TY said, the pose looks broken in so many areas that I just can't find myself loving it 100%
I think a different pose could have been chosen as well, I love how fierce it looks but the perspective of the body and head is very off when I look at it. And I understand it's suppose to be swimming but you should definitely be able to see some of the back leg at that angle. I really REALLY want to love this I do, but too many little nit picks ruin it for me :/
