The problem with most rainbow pets is making the colour sequence fit with the body progression. Limbs and appendages and such are what complicate things. This pet doesn't have that problem. The stripes just have to go down.
It would have been sort of insulting had this one been done wrong.
It isn't quite as hard as that. Case in point: the Rainbow Kiko, whose artist clearly took your "The stripes just have to go down" principle a little too much to heart.
I'm talking about the Hit pose. The Hit pose, people.

Gold: I'm not sure what to think...the shades and changes and such...shimmery-ish, but...I'm not feeling it. It just doesn't look right somehow, especially with the "greenish" darks instead of the reddish-brown hues that indicate gold rather than shiny mud. It's like they put TOO much effort into it but still didn't manage to pull it off. Yuck.
Skunk: that's SKUNK? Even though I remember we already had the Shadow, that's what I was thinking too. Black with white feet and a white STRIPE would suffice (like the OLD one was)...this isn't Skunk as it is.
Rainbow: It's not too bad. The color progression is nice. It always irks me though when an obviously fluffy pet has straight solid color-change contours. I guess that would be a little much to do though. :-/
The highlight on the stripe should be much lighter or not there at all, but at least now I can finally begin pondering in earnest whether or not I should repaint SpongeHead.
Despite that, the Skunk one looks much better now. Actually looks like Skunk instead of "deformed Shadow" now. The white feet are still very cute, I'm glad they kept those.
And the Rainbow Kiko made me laugh really hard after I finally realized what was wrong with it. xD;;;
I really wish that the rainbow bands had a little bit of fur texture to them instead of being solid lines. That's permissible on the Kiko, which doesn't have fur, but the jubjub is clearly quite fuzzy and those smooth lines should be broken up and a little more jagged.
