Site links (subeta links now needed)

Post by dandelions »

Post any sites here you'd like us to link to on our new, ahem, links page. We're working on the originality of page names.

Do people want PPT linked? Two years ago I wouldn't even have asked, it'd be obvious it'd be linked, but I don't know how true the allegations of things like spyware are, and it's not the only site which does game guides. Opinions?

On PPC I've got it linked to the PPT forums rather than the main site.

http://www.pinkpt.com <- I don't know if it's just me that sees the list on the left hand side starting "big fat cock" o_O

I've got "what if it were your child who was abducted". Linking to their forums sounds like a good idea.

Also, I'm leery of linking to a site which gives advice like this:
You can still got to the Soup kitchen if you're rich? You only have to quickly put your nps into the stock market and you can take them out later. - Elizabeth B.

I don't usually go to PPT... I do see that weird list though, which is somewhat odd even if the links don't go anywhere. I'm not actually a fan of any of the big fansites- they are mostly just too big and I never know them well enough to trust any of the things they say. If I want a game guide I'll usually go to Avatarlog if it's an avatar game and if not then the games petpage (I forget the pet's name for the moment).

Neoitems is very useful and does link in with our aesthetics focus, I think they're worth linking even if they don't want to link us back because we're not as strict with our forum rules as they are. Jellyneo's item database might also be worth linking because of the wishlist section they have, I'm not sure.

The only other one I can think of at the moment is Sunnyneo for their editorial database which is useful.

Edit: this might sound like a stupid question, but why would we link to PPT's forums? "Here's another style of fansite forum which isn't like us". Does it want to be a listing of every fansite out there or a listing of fansites that are worth a visit?

I had a look at PPT, and clicked on a random article that was advertised on their front page:

http://www.pinkpt.com/sub_what-i-like-about-neopets.htm

I think I'd either suggest linking to their forums, or not linking at all.

There was a time when PPT was the 'only' neopets fansite along with nothingbutneopets and neoitems and probably some others that I don't know offhand, but that time is past; there are other, better fansites. PPT is only popular because it's popular.

Just like a very smart dude I know said: paintings like the Mona Lisa aren't famous because they're good, they're famous because they're famous.

Heh, I was too busy boggling at that list on PPT I forgot to include links I thought would be good.

Neoitems - I obviously haven't been going there enough as it looks nice and spiffy now. It's the best item db site there is.

AvatarLog - I don't use it myself and neopets seem to have pulled the plug on avatars of late but it's still worth linking to.

Jellyneo - my favourite of the news sites, no drama and a nice simple layout. Also their wishlist thing is very handy.

Pick a Pet - a livejournal community, excellent for adopting out pets that get no interest here, and very well run.

Suta-Raito - nice neopets graphics, run of course by the lovely Eevee1.

Neo Nutters of Neopia - these guys get things first a lot, though I don't know if linking to two news sites would be worth it.

The Neopian Commentary - sadly this seems to have died. Pity as it was often fun to read.

And then there's the other adoption sites as well but I don't go to them. Oh yeah, and there's some site that specialises in petpets, might be worth looking into. Maybe ;D

How about http://www.neopound.com and http://idb.finalhit.org ?

I also second (third? etc.) SunnyNeo, AvatarLog, JellyNeo and NeoItems, they are the help sites I visit frequently.

The problem with neopound is it endorses those hugely complex rules for petpage applications (by allowing them, it is endorsing them), which we people on Neocolours don't approve of very much.

That said, I'm letting my personal biases against this site (previous staff member who quit with a spectacular display of bridge-burning) get in the way, so take my opinion on this for what it's worth, which is not much.

And yes, I am miss negative. Just pretend I'm devil's advocate or something, yeah?

Neopound.com? Ack. Including what Madge said, I've known people to have their pets put up on that site against their will and being overrun with applications and beggers in their inbox. Moderators on that site don't seem very concerned with that particular problem, or at least they weren't.

Aside from that I often visit neo nutters, already mentioned, because they do get news very early (how?).

I am disinclined to use NeoNutters because of their complete disregard for browser compatibility (if you have to tell your users to upgrade their browsers just to look at your site, it's not their problem, it's yours) and so would go with a different news site.

Neopound's a bit...iffy, because I don't want to have to deal with people putting up pets with hugely complicated adoption rules here.

some petpet site, trick? Really? I had no idea! :P Similarly, daisy, do you want us to link your colour combination petpage, and tiel, Deathwinks' page? They fit well with the general theme of this site.

Sites I'll definitely be linking at this point in time: Neoitems, Jellyneo, IDB, Neodaq, Sunnyneo (or possibly the petpage which does the same thing, but more likely Sunnyneo), Pick a Pet (since their adoptions are similar to ours), the IDNQ and PPC. Should I link Spanky's Book World?

I think linking Spanky's book world is a very good idea, I tend to forget it exists but it's useful if you want to keep track of books. And yes, I would like it if you linked to my colours petpage but I didn't really want to suggest it myself.

What about http://www.geocities.com/neoquest_2/ for a NQ2 guide? I like it more than IDNQ because the walkthrough is more comprehensive.

Hmm yeah, NeoPound isn't too important to me, I got my Tyrannian Peophin via that site, but the application rules on the whole from the people there are strict.

How about AvatarLog (not on your list), or is that not closely related enough to NeoColours?

How does pick a pet work, I have just seen a pet on there i'm interested in.

Since SunnyNeo is looking a bit iffy on that definite list, I'll give it a little push. Even if it is only to link to their Editorial search engine, the site is well worth a link.

Spanky's Book World would be a great link.

I also will join in the nominations for AvatarLog.

As for PPT, I loathe going on the site proper, but I do use their forums to keep up with the chatter and plots, etc. So, I would mildly endorse a link to their forums.

I don't have a lot of use for the PPT site proper myself, although I read the forums regularly and post there semi-regularly. However, the forums are a fabulous clearinghouse for Neopets information. I would strongly endorse a link to them.

(The cookie-grabber thing? Totally absurd. Also, I think now technically impossible. I think it was fabricated from whole cloth by the lovely people at SoupFaerie.)

Blech at Neopound; yay for Meowpillay's NQII map and help site; and yay for Daisy and Tiel's petpages.

Also? *boggle* at the links on PPT's frontpage. =D
